It's A Holly Jolly Survey

It’s Christmas time again!  I know: that’s hard to miss since we’ve been surrounded by Christmas decorations since August (OK I’m exaggerating but only a bit). Yes, there are other holidays (I’m Jewish and I love Hanukkah and the latkes and jelly doughnuts that come with it). But there is one thing that everyone can agree on; no matter what religion we are: we all love Christmas songs! Whether we admit it or not, the unofficial beginning of Christmas is hearing Mariah Carey sing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in her Santa suit.

I think we all have a favorite thing about the season:  the joy, the decorations, the presents,  and the two weeks off, but what I was really curious about is, what is the most popular Christmas song for my classmates in the Nautilus Program?

FYI, my personal favorite Christmas song is “I Really Don’t Hate Christmas” from Phineas and Ferb (the Disney Show that ended in 2015), but somehow I think I am in the minority.

I ran the survey and here are the results:

Many songs got only one vote.  Those were - “Silent Night”, “Santa Baby”, “Count on Christmas”, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”, “Feliz Navidad”,  “Christmas Tree Farm”, “Deck The Halls”, and “You Make It Feel Like Christmas”.

Wow, that is a long list!  I have to agree with the choice of, “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”. It’s a classic and makes me get into the holiday spirit!

Three songs had the same amount of votes and are tied for second place.  Those are: “Carol Of the Bells”, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, and “Last Christmas”.

Those are all really great choices and I’m a little surprised that “All I Want For Christmas Is You” wasn’t in first place. It’s not my personal favorite, but I thought it would be at least tied for first.

Now the moment everyone has been waiting for - first place.

Two songs were tied for first place. With one-seventh of the vote going to each of them, they really deserve the top spots.

These two are (Drum roll please) “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Jingle Bells”!

One third of the vote went to songs involving bells. Now that is wild!

I hope you learned something about the magic of Christmas music.  No matter how different we seem on the surface, we all can come together and know that we love the same classic songs.   They are classics for a reason:  because they are just plain good.
