ChatGPT was developed on November 30th, 2022 by OpenAI. It is a Large Language Model (LLM) that answers complex questions. LLMs use a large amount of data to predict the next word in a sentence, trained from conversations such as those on Reddit. This allows ChatGPT to provide human-like responses based on data from previously asked questions. It can learn and copy the way humans respond to questions. ChatGPT can write essays responding to prompts, write poetry, write news reports, create websites, translate languages, solve math problems, summarize text, and develop apps. It can even pretend to have realistic human emotions. It is also predicted that it will replace Google as the most widespread search engine. Although the creation of ChatGPT originally produced feelings of fear in the community, it is still a long way from posing a threat to society. For example, it was thought that it would take over the jobs of lower-level programmers. This, however, is currently impossible because it is limited to writing basic levels of code. It also may provide incorrect answers. ChatGPT does not have the ability to “take over the world,” secondary to its lack of self-awareness and memory. Another concern is that students could use this program to write their essays. However, this can be stopped by using a tool called GPTZero, another program that can detect whether or not an essay was written by artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, ChatGPT has made enormous strides toward artificial intelligence approaching human capabilities.
